For my birthday this year (May 15th), my best friend sent me a copy of Jesus Calling by Sarah Young. If you are looking for a daily spiritual devotional, I would highly recommend this one.
Here is how it has worked for me. I pray, then write in my journal, then read the devotion. On the hardest, most difficult days, the passage was on the exact topic about which I was writing. It is amazing how God will meet our very needs, if we ask.
Yesterday’s passage (November 23rd) was an assignment. “As you go through this day, look for tiny treasures strategically placed along the way. I lovingly go before you and plant little pleasures to brighten your day. Look carefully for them, and pluck them one by one.”
So my thankfulness bouquet looked like this:
Let me pray with/for you:
This life is not easy. I am grateful that I have you in my life and for the personal relationship I have with you through Your Son, Jesus. Thank you revealing yourself through the blessings that I receive. In this way, you help me to understand that I am Your precious daughter, to whom you want to give many gifts and favors. Help me to complain less and thank you more, especially when times are hard and I just want to complain to everyone that will listen.
I pray especially for those that will be alone or feel alone on this Thanksgiving holiday. Please bring them comfort. Help them to know that with you, they are never alone.
I pray this in the name of Your Son, Jesus. Amen
